Brian Vargas, and his wife,
Heather, moved to Logan Circle in 2005, and immediately became
involved in the local community, and quickly began working to
better the community. He has served on the board of the Logan
Circle Community Association (LCCA) as Treasurer, and currently
serves as Corresponding Secretary. He has also served as the
LCCA appointee to the Steering Committee of the 14th Street
Transportation and Streetscape Study.
Brian believes strongly in the unique urban fabric of the Logan
Circle neighborhood. He emphasizes the needs for
pedestrian-friendly transportation and urban planning. He and
his wife are proud to have lived car-free since 2004, utilizing
Metrorail, Metrobus, SmartBikes, ZipCar, and their feet for all
their transportation needs. Brian is passionate about enabling
others to do the same through innovative transportation planning
and implementation tailored to the increasingly dense Logan
Circle area, including the expansion of ZipCar and SmartBike,
congestion parking pricing, and on-street parking for
non-automobile vehicles, such as bikes and scooters.
Brian grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. He received his B.S. in
Computer Science from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in
2000, and is self-employed as a software architect, engineer,
and consultant. Currently, he works with the Library of Congress
in the Repository Development Group, under the Office of
Strategic Initiatives, on digital repository architectures and
designs.
