For the past ten years I have been a resident of Logan Circle.
In that
time, I have seen a tremendous amount of change. And, I am sure
that
development and change will continue in our neighborhood as the
14th Street
area continues to flourish and as businesses and residents
continue to move
to the 9th Street corridor and around the Washington Convention
Center. As
the commissioner representing the residents of Single Member
District 2F06
on Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 2F, a primary goal of
mine is to
ensure that growth occurs in the right way and that transitions
are fluid.
Growth and change are important to our great city, and to our
neighborhood.
As residents, our opinions about this change must be heard. The
District
of Columbia's ANC structure is a vital conduit to voice opinions
about the
direction of our neighborhood. In the next two years, our ANC
will consider
a wide range of policies and programs affecting, not only our
neighborhood,
but our livelihood. These include matters of public safety;
economic
development; liquor license issues; housing regulations;
recreational parks;
zoning laws; sanitation; and traffic, parking, and street
improvements. I
want to make sure the residents of SMD 2F06 have a voice in
these matters.
Being an advocate for the community and encouraging residents to
take an
active role in our neighborhood is one of my top priorities. As
your ANC
commissioner, I am happy to be your spokesperson in the decision
making
process. I will do my best to articulate your opinions.
I feel strongly that our ANC must be proactive in dealing with
the
development along 9th Street. This will be especially important
as the
Convention Center hotel is planned, constructed and opened. The
same holds
true for the old convention center site, at the south end of our
ANC. We
need to ensure that growth and change in these areas is positive
and we must
take every opportunity to influence the change so that it is
acceptable to
our community.
I take my commitment to serving our community very seriously. I
am the
chairman of the ANC's Community Development Committee—the
sub-committee
responsible for reviewing and advising the ANC on new
construction and
renovation projects. I have also served on the board of the
Logan Circle
Community Association and its Historic Preservation Review
Committee.
Professionally, I work for the Federal Government, managing the
Cyber Fraud
& Financial Crimes Section of the Federal Deposit Insurance
Corporation
(FDIC). My experience includes positions as a banker, bank
examiner, and
banking policy analyst, but most importantly, my skills are in
organizational management. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Finance
from the
University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida.
My partner, Carlos Arias, and I love the Logan Circle
neighborhood. We have
lived on both sides of the Circle—for two years in a condo in
the 1400 block
of Rhode Island Avenue and now for eight years in our row house
in the 900
block of P Street.
