...the ARTS Overlay District

The ARTS Overlay District is a municipal zoning district applied to commercial and mixed-used space around 14th and U Streets NW. Its purpose is to support continued commercial development of the 14th Street corridor while retaining the residential flavor of the surrounding area, as well as fostering artistic & cultural endeavors.

...the Committee

The ARTS Overlay Review Committee, a special committee appointed by ANC2F, is reviewing the provisions of the ARTS Overlay Zoning District, including the 25% limitation related to restaurants/bars on 14th Street, NW, in order to examine what more the zoning regulations can do to encourage vibrant development of daytime retail and other uses on 14th Street. The committee is interested in hearing from any person or organization that has views on these issues.

Public meetings of the ARTS Overlay Review Committee will take place on Tuesday evenings in June and July. Please contact Joan Ferraris (email: ; phone: 202-797-8371) to have your name added to the speaking schedule for a future meeting.

Following this period of public consultation and outreach, the ARTS Overlay Review Committee will report its recommendations to ANC2F and the DC Office of Planning by early September 2009.
