Old Convention Center Site Redevelopment Residential Advisory Committee

ANC 2F has been asked by the development team that is redeveloping the old convention center site to appoint a local resident to a Residential Advisory Committee ("RAC").  This committee is part of their Community Involvement Plan.

The purpose of the RAC is to create a structured platform for residents in the adjoining neighborhoods--generally ANC 2C and ANC 2F--to provide opportunities for regular exchange and interaction with the development team on matters of importance to area residents.  The development group feels that community consensus will be essential in achieving maximum effectiveness for the project.  Many issues and decisions will be considered by the community as the redevelopment of this project gets underway.

The development group is looking for someone who is accustomed to working in community groups and has the ability to make responsible decisions that benefit the larger community.  They are looking for people with diverse talents and abilities; people who are able to fully embrace the advisory committee concept.

If you are interested in serving in this capacity, please let me know by February 14, 2008.  The plan is to convene the first meeting of the RAC in early March, following the designation of all committee members.  I believe the group will meet once a month on a weekday evening.

Increased Attention to Parking Enforcement

On Friday, February 1st, the Mayor's Office of Community Relations and Services announced that MPD 3D has begun full enforcement of posted parking regulations, seven days a week.  This increased attention to parking compliance and safety issues which will begin immediately.  This should go along way in our efforts to stop illegal parking (i.e., in crosswalks, in front of fire hydrants, etc.) by cars from outside of our neighborhood, especially on high traffic days like Sundays.

ANC2F is composed of six Single Member Districts (SMDs), each of which includes about 2,000 residents. Voters who reside in the same SMD as the candidate elect the Commissioners. Commissioners are nonpartisan, unpaid local government officials.
