Consumers Can Shop Tax Free in DC from August 2-10
Just in time for back-to-school shopping, the District of Columbia
will offer buyers an exemption from the 5.75 percent sales tax for
school supplies, clothing, shoes, and accessory items costing $100 or
less.  The Sales Tax holiday will begin 12:01 am Saturday, August 2,
through midnight Sunday, August 10.

Everybody – not just back-to-school shoppers – can save during this
great opportunity to shop tax-free in DC.  No matter how much you
spend on clothing, accessories, footwear and school supplies, as long
as each item costs $100 or less, there will be no sales tax to pay.

A second tax holiday will be in November, beginning the weekend
following Thanksgiving.  For more information about the Sales Tax
holiday, visit OTR's Web site at www.taxpayerservicecenter.com under
"Sales Tax Holiday" or call OTR's Customer Service Center at (202)
727-4TAX (4829).

11th Street Update

In response to my continued questioning about the reconstruction of 11th Street, NW (between L and P Streets), DDOT has informed me that bids will open tomorrow, on July 2, 2008.  In approximately six to eight weeks, a Notice To Proceed (NTP) for construction will be issued.  They don't expect actual construction to begin before September 2, 2008.

ANC2F is composed of six Single Member Districts (SMDs), each of which includes about 2,000 residents. Voters who reside in the same SMD as the candidate elect the Commissioners. Commissioners are nonpartisan, unpaid local government officials.
