Samuel Goekjian graduated from Syracuse University in 1952 with a magna cum laude degree in History and Political Science, and obtained his law degree from Harvard Law School, after serving 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, in 1957. Mr. Goekjian came to Washington in 1958 to work as an attorney in the U.S. Development Loan Fund and has remained a resident of the Washington area since then. In 1960 he joined the firm of Surrey & Morse in Washington, where he became in due course its Managing Partner, and subsequently head of its Paris office for some ten years.

Mr. Goekjian has been a resident of the Washington area for most of his life. He has been a resident of Thomas Circle Residence, 1330 Massachusetts Avenue NW, however, since August 1, 2008, when he moved there from 4910 Loughboro Road NW, where he had lived with his wife and four children since 1978, when his wife passed away soon after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

His professional career includes 22 years with Surrey & Morse, 9 years as CEO of Consolidated Westway Group and the last 15 years with Kile Goekjian Reed & McManus, from which he retired in 2009. He has been a senior consultant to several agency of the United Nations on issues of economic development, a member of the advisory board of the Maxwell School for 14 years, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Syracuse University for 13 years. He has also been Chair of the Board of Trustees (5 years), and thereafter President of the Church Council (4 years) of the Palisades Community Church.

In April of this year Mr. Goekjian was appointed to be a delegate to serve out the vacancy that had arisen in the ANC2F-03 commissioner position.
