Jim Lamare is a retired university professor who moved to Washington, D.C. in 2009. He was elected to represent the new single member district 2F05 in November 2012. He currently works as a volunteer at the Hispanic Link News Service where he has been an editor/contributor for the last two years.
Before arriving in the District, Jim taught political science at UCLA, the University of Texas at El Paso, the University of Texas at Austin, and Texas Tech University. He was departmental chair at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. He also held the position of Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Texas, Pan American and Dean of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, Florida Atlantic University. He is the author of several academic books and numerous scholarly articles.
Jim received his undergraduate degree from California State University, Northridge and his masters and doctoral degrees are from the University of California, Los Angeles He has two daughters: one is a school principal in Santa Rosa, California and the other is a doctor at the Washington Hospital Center. His son is an assistant professor in labor studies and employment relations at Pennsylvania State University.
